“Poverty & Women’s Health”
Women face many obstacles in managing their health throughout the several stages of life. Hear how two non-profits are helping girls and young women overcome “Period Poverty” and what Soroptimist International is doing for mature women through their advocacy work.

Conference Service Project
Period Bags Update:
Plastic bags are no longer allowed in certain countries, so DaysForGirls
changed from plastics bags to reusable, washable "wet bags" for their
kits. The wet bags can be purchased on Amazon, 2 for $10 or 4 for $14 to $17.
Join us for another region hands-on service project, focused on ending “Period Poverty”.
What is Period Poverty?
The inability to access sanitary products and menstruation education due to financial constraints; disproportionately affects students, low-income and homeless women and girls, transgender and nonbinary individuals and Incarcerated people.
We will be making period kits to send to a Soroptimist club in Kenya near Kisumu to donate to a local school.
Period Kits
Each bag contains 2 shields, 8 pads, and a few purchased items (a bar of soap in a wet bag, 3 pairs of underpants, a washcloth).
Underpants size suggested: girls 10-12, girls 12-14, or women's small. Please put a tag on the bag (small, medium or large) so they know what the bag includes.
Snap size suggestion - 16p metal snaps. You will need to buy a snapping tool.

Conference Service Project Final Report
Nineteen clubs in Founder Region made a total of 87 period kits for the 2022 Conference Service Project. Pictured here are the 4 suitcases that are being transported to a Soroptimist club in Kenya near Kisumu to donate to a local school. Thank you to all the members who participated and especially SI/El Cerrito and Barbara Lanier for coordinating this wonderful hands on project. We are empowering girls around the world to live up to their full potential and live their dreams!
